In Greene County district court sentencing was completed July 28 in five cases against Zachery Waters, 21, of Grand Junction. The cases were initiated between April 6 and June 25, 2017. Waters was charged with harassment- first degree in a case initiated April 6. He was sentenced to two years in prison. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge. He must pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees to be determined and $244.05 court costs. A companion case in which Waters was charged with assault was dismissed. Court costs were $80.
Waters was charged with criminal mischief- fourth degree on June 25. That case was dismissed as part of the plea agreement in the April case. Court costs were $60. Charges of unlawful possession of a prescription drug and theft- third degree in a case initiated April 19 were also dismissed. Court costs were $120 in that case.

The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. Jesus M. Zuniga Jr, 18, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to charges of burglary- third degree (motor vehicle). The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge and a $125 LEI surcharge. Zuniga was also charged with carrying weapons in the same case. He was sentenced to two years in prison, concurrent to the sentence on the burglary charge. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. Zuniga must pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees to be determined and $174.89 court costs. A companion case in magistrate court in which Zuniga was charged with trespass was dismissed. Court costs were $60 in that case. (Sentencing: Kester)
Kyle John Johnson, 21, of Palmer was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty July 31 to a charge of possession of marijuana- first offense. He was placed on informal probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Johnson must pay a $315 civil penalty, a $125 LEI surcharge, a $10 drug abuse resistance education (DARE) surcharge, $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. A companion case in magistrate court in which Johnson was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. Court costs were $60 in that case. (Sentencing: Kester)
Ricky Eugene Comer, 61, of Grand Junction was sentenced July 28 to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. His driver’s license was revoked for 180 days. Comer was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge, a $125 LEI surcharge and a $10 DARE surcharge. He must also pay $750 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)
Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: Derek Eugene Ott, 35, of Jefferson, burglary- third degree; Jacob Monroe Cullum, 31, of Paton, domestic abuse assault display or use weapon, and burglary- first degree; Dore Marie Marie James, 43, of Churdan, possession of marijuana- first offense; Steven Logan Dzuris, 29, of Jefferson, public intoxication- second offense; Lawrence Shannon O’Neal, 43, of Grand Junction, driving while license barred; Arizona Skye Bunn, 21, of Boone, possession of marijuana- first offense; and Bryant Alexander Anderson, 29, of Fort Dodge, carrying weapons. Trial dates were set for Oct. 31 for all defendants except Cullum. His trial date was set for Sept. 26.

Zuniga Jr, 18, of Jefferson, burglary- third degree (motor vehicle), two separate cases, and a third case in which he was charged with distributing a drug to a minor; James Harris, 30, of Woodward, tampering with witness or juror; Michael Dean Correy, 57, of Story City, possession of marijuana- first offense; Laura Ann Ditzler, 44, of Afton, operating while intoxicated- first offense; and Bryce Daniel Burkhardt, 18, of Jefferson, OWI- first offense.
