Freedom Rock Park is closer to completion with the addition of sidewalks and flagpoles. The work was done before the Greene County Fair, and many fair-goers stopped to visit the park.
Still to come are lights and benches, committee member Dawn Rudolph said. The lights will be placed outside the perimeter of the sidewalk. Plaques commemorating each branch of the Armed Forces will be inside the perimeter. The exact placement of benches hasn’t been determined.
Some plans were changed when scales for the former grain elevator at that location made excavating for the sidewalks difficult, Rudolph said.
This second phase of the project (the first being acquisition and painting of the rock) is funded by a $22,584 grant from the Greene County Community Foundation.
