Customers at the Jefferson Fareway store were able to contribute to Greene County Farm Bureau’s second annual Cram the Cab campaign June 26 to July 1 by “rounding up” the purchase at the register or by donating non-perishable food.
All contributions were donated to the Greene County Christian Action Resource Center. In addition to the many carts full of groceries, more than $2,200 was raised by Greene County Fareway customers.
Farm Bureau’s Cram the Cab campaign responded to the local needs in Greene County. According to the Iowa Food Bank Association, one out of eight Iowan’s struggle with hunger. The food drive challenged area customers to fill up an entire tractor cab with groceries. Rueter’s Red Power in Grand Junction provided the tractor.
“We were excited to again partner with Farm Bureau on their Cram the Cab campaign,” said Jefferson Fareway store manager Doug Monaghan. “Thanks to our customers for both monetary and food donations. We appreciate their generosity as we work together to help feed those in need in Greene county.”
“The community has been very supportive of this campaign which is why it has been so successful,” said John McCormick, Greene County Farm Bureau president. “We appreciate the support of the Jefferson Fareway store staff and their customers to help provide this considerable contribution.”
McCormick also went on to say that several Greene County Farm Bureau board members were present at the store throughout the week giving away America Needs Farmers and Farm Strong T-shirts for a $10 donation to the food pantry.
Dallas County Farm Bureau also held its own Cram the Cab event at the same time and a friendly competition ensued between the counties and the Fareway stores as to who could raise the most money/groceries. And the winner of the competition is…the local food pantry and the recipients who will receive this food.
