Corn, soybeans doing well

Warm and windy weather with spotty thunderstorms prevailed across Iowa during the week ending June 18, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. Those isolated storms left some farmers assessing crop damage from strong winds and hail. Statewide there were 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork. Activities for the week included cutting hay, spraying herbicides, nitrogen side-dressing, and re-planting.

Winners in 4-H communication contest told

The Greene County 4-H communications contest, a prologue to the county fair, was held Tuesday, June 13, at the Greene County Extension & Outreach office. Five exhibitors competed in the event, which was judged by Mary Johnson of Ankeny. The contest was coordinated by communications superintendent Yvette Bardole.

Greene County district court, week ending June 15

In Greene County district court Cynthia Louise Hobbs, 42, of Jefferson was sentenced June 9 to five years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of forgery.
