It’s an important service but due to a lack of attendance and funding, the Scranton congregate meal site is closing. The final day of operation is Friday, June 30.
Scranton residents will not be left without noon meal service. Jerry Boyd has agreed to pick up meals in Jefferson and deliver them to Scranton residents.
Meals must be pre-ordered the day before by calling 515-386-9170. The service is available Monday – Friday except on holidays.
The meal site in Scranton will remain open in the morning for coffee so that friends may gather to “solve the world’s problems”. The Heartfelt Quilters will also be allowed to continue their sessions in the east room of the building.
Taylor Boyle of Elderbridge commented the Scranton site was averaging just one or two dine-in patrons per day with roughly eight meals delivered around town. With a decrease in state and federal funding, cuts had to be made to make the congregate meals program operate more efficiently. Thus the decision to close the Scranton site was made.
