In Greene County district court Shane Douglas Olson, 42, of Churdan was granted a deferred judgment June 14 after he entered an Alford plea to charges of assault- simple and criminal mischief- fifth degree. (In entering an Alford plea a defendant does not admit committing a crime, but believes that given the facts in the county attorney’s information, a jury would find him guilty of the crime.)
Olson was placed on informal probation for one year. He must pay a civil penalty of $65 for each offense and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge on the criminal mischief charge. He must pay $500 restitution to the victim and $376.50 court costs. Olson was initially charged with assault while displaying dangerous weapon, intimidation with a dangerous weapon to injure/provoke fear, and criminal mischief- third degree after he allegedly shot at a truck passing his home in June 2016. Jesse Ray Savka, 30, of Manning was sentenced to two days in jail June 15 after he pleaded guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. He may complete a 48-hour Weekend Offender program in lieu of the jail time. He must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already undergone and he must complete a community college drinking drivers course. Savka was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge and a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE). Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)
Logan Wayne Grazier, 20, of Scranton was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of OWI- first offense. He was placed on informal probation for one year. He must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already undergone and he must complete a community college drinking drivers course. He must pay a $1,250 civil penalty and $100 court costs. A charge of possession of marijuana was dismissed. A companion case in magistrate court in which Grazier was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. Court costs in that case were $60. (Sentencing: Kester)
Terry Lee Romick III, 22 of Coon Rapids was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of OWI- first offense. He was placed on informal probation for one year. He must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already undergone and he must complete a community college drinking drivers course. He must pay a $1,250 civil penalty, $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)
Uvette Michelle Winger, 33, of Jefferson pleaded not guilty to a charge of burglary- third degree. A trial date was set for Aug. 22.
