Greene County Extension is continuing its series of Coffee & Conversation events, bringing farmers and other agriculture professionals together for an informal discussion on current topics, with “Potential Uses of Drones in Agriculture” on Friday, June 16. All are invited at 9:30 am for coffee, donuts and discussion with Dr. Kapil Arora, ISU Extension & Outreach agricultural engineer, on the use of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) as a new trend taking its roots in Iowa’s agricultural operations.
UAS are capable of producing aerial imagery at different resolution and types that can potentially help guide actionable farming decisions. From Big Data to performing routine checks on crops, livestock, and on-farm environmental impacts, drones can help farmers extract hidden knowledge to evaluate the performance of their farming operations. This session will explore the potential agricultural uses of drones and the information derived for different imagery for a UAS user.
June’s Coffee & Conversation is sponsored by Home State Bank. No reservations are needed for this free event. For more information, call the Extension office at 515-386-2138, email Lori Mannel at lmannel@iastate.edu, or visit www.extension.iastate.edu/greene.
