Bell Tower update

While we enjoyed the Memorial Day weekend, the crew from Verdin Company worked at the top of the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower. The last of the bells was hoisted to the top of the tower Sunday morning. Work continued, even on Monday. The project is expected to be completed Wednesday, in plenty of time for the premier performance June 9.

Dane Kious, 1930 – 2017

A prayer service for Dane Kious, 86, of Jefferson was held Wednesday, May 31, at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson. Interment was at Jefferson Municipal Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family was assisted by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home of Jefferson.

Greene County district court, May 19-24

In Greene County district court Susan Houseman, 57, of Ogden was granted a deferred judgment after she pleaded guilty to a charge of prohibited activities, amended from fraudulent practice- second degree. A judgment was entered for a $315 civil penalty and $193.25 court costs. Houseman was placed on informal probation for one year. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)

In Greene county magistrate court David Hoyle of Churdan was sentenced May 24 to 30 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault- simple.
