Dan Benitz, who was elected to the Jefferson city council in November to fill a vacancy, resigned from the council effective May 18.
City attorney Bob Schwarzkopf will brief the council on the options for filling the council seat at the regular council meeting this evening.
Benitz was elected from District 2 after Lisa Jaskey resigned due to relocation. The city council has since eliminated council districts; all council members going forward will be elected at-large.
The term to which Jaskey and Benitz were elected expires in 2019. Schwarzkopf will inform the council if the seat is available to all residents or only those who live in the former District 2, and timetables for an appointment or a special election ahead of the November 2017 election.
Benitz did not return a call to GreeneCountyNewsOnline Monday.
