A Little Library dedicated to the late Karen Younie was repaired by Greene County Middle School principal Shawn Zanders recently.
The Little Library is a free sharing library, where people very informally share books. Books are free for the taking and folks are welcome to leave books there, too.
The library was placed at the corner of S. Vine and W. Russell St by the Jefferson Rotary Club. Younie was not only a much loved and respected principal at Jefferson-Scranton High School and then the middle school, but she was also a past president of the Rotary Club.
The Little Library had been damaged and knocked off its post during the winter. School reading specialist Julie Neal noticed the damage and asked Zanders if the bird house club at the middle school could fix it. Zanders instead took the Little Library home and fixed it himself.
Neal shared word of Zanders’ good deed, saying that it should not go unappreciated, although she did make him cookies.
