Greene County junior Megan Durbin placed second in the girls high jump at the Drake Relays in Des Moines Friday. The high jump was moved to the Drake Field House because of the wet weather.
Durbin almost fell out of competition early, needing all three attempts to clear the opening height of 5′ 0″. She cleared 5′ 2″ on her first attempt and made 5′ 4″ on her second jump. She cleared 5′ 6″ on her first attempt, but missed all three tries at 5′ 7″. Josie Durr of Solon also cleared 5′ 6″, but not until her third attempt, giving Durbin second place. Mariah Gorham of North Polk placed first, making 5′ 7″ on her second attempt.
Durbin and Gorham also took medal honors in 2016, with Durbin in first place and Gorham in second place. Durbin went on to take first place in the high jump in the Class 3A state meet.
Durbin was the only Ram to qualify for the Drake Relays
