Individual research proposals written by Greene County High School seniors Lucas Fisher and Crawford Petterson on food security factors in Third World counties have been accepted by the 2017 World Food Prize Iowa Youth Institute at Iowa State University.
They will present their work to a panel of judges later this month for an opportunity to attend the Global Youth Institute in October.
This is Petterson’s second year to present his proposal. Last year his research focused on water scarcity in India. This year he investigated farm-to-market access in Papua New Guinea.
Fisher chose to research sustainable agriculture in Algeria.
The two are students in Katie Akers’ agronomy classes.
