The 12th annual “Toddler Fest” will be held Saturday, April 8, from 10 am to noon at the Greene County Community Center. Toddlers 2-5 years old and their families are invited to spend time together at this free event that encourages children to “Bee A Reader”.
“We are so excited to present our special guests…Scholastic’s Clifford the Big Red Dog and PBS Kids character Martha from Martha Speaks courtesy of IPTV! You’ll want to bring a camera and have your picture taken with Clifford and Martha!” said Jefferson librarian Terry Clark.
Magician Rick Eugene will return to entertain children with his balloon creations and magic tricks. Children can try their luck fishing at the camping site, shop at the grocery store, build block towers, crawl through a tunnel or blow soap bubbles. These are just a few of the “come and go” activities available with more 20 different activity stations for children to visit.
Each child who attends Toddler Fest will receive a free book from the Jefferson Rotary Club. There will be a “Bee Hive Drawing” for prizes and Bunkers Dunkers will provide treats.
A new interactive exhibit will be at the Toddler Fest this year. Members of the Jefferson Elks lodge will partner with the Jefferson fire department in the Elks fire prevention trailer.
“The trailer is used to demonstrate fire safety,” said Elks member Bill Berger. “Jefferson firefighters will show children what the hazards are and how to be safer in their own homes. We want them to get the actual experience of touching the door to see if it’s warm and hearing the smoke alarm go off,”
The Greene County librarians encourage children to check out the large selection of books at their local libraries. “With great community partners and volunteers, we are excited to offer the Toddler Fest event to families of children 2-5 years old. Save the date, Saturday, April 8, and join us for a fun-filled morning,” said Shari Minnehan, president of the Greene County Librarians Association.
Toddler Fest is a free cooperative event sponsored by all six Greene County libraries and the Greene County board of supervisors and supported by many community partners and volunteers. Each toddler will receive a book, refreshments, and book bag to fill with goodies while supplies last. For more information about Toddler Fest, contact your local Greene County library.
