Ryan L. Mortensen, 35, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017, with his loving family by his side. Memorial services were held Saturday, April 1, at 11 am at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny.
The family was assisted by Ankeny Funeral Home in Ankeny.
Ryan Lynn was born on a wintery day January 13, 1982, to Marvin and Barbara (Heerema) Mortensen in Ames. He graduated from Jefferson-Scranton High School in 2000 and then attended Central College in Pella, where he graduated in 2004 with his bachelor’s degree in communications.
Ryan was united in marriage to Megan Bonnstetter and they were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Finlay Rae and Franki Louise. They were later divorced.
He was most recently employed at John Deere with their Intelligent Solutions Group in Urbandale.
Ryan enjoyed spending time with his family, from teasing his younger brother and sister to farm talk with his dad and grandpa. He loved every minute he spent with his daughters, watching movies with them such as their recent favorite, “Moana”. He also enjoyed watching “Star Wars”, music and football.
Left to cherish his memory are Ryan’s daughters Finlay Rae and Franki Louise of Johnston; parents Marv and Barbara Mortensen of Ankeny; brother Alex (Megan) Mortensen and daughters Katelyn and Emmaline of Kansas City, MO; sister Jeneka Mortensen of West Des Moines; grandfather Ray Mortensen of Fort Dodge; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Ralph and Frances (Bielema) Heerema and paternal grandmother Eunice (Peterson) Mortensen.
Memorials may be made to Ryan Mortensen Memorial to benefit his daughters’ education fund.
