The Greene County Schools board of education approved hiring Mitchell Moore as head football coach at its March 22 meeting, but not until board member Mark Peters spoke about the resignation of six-year coach Dean Lansman.
Moore’s hiring was on the consent agenda with minutes, bills for payment, financial reports and hirings/resignations. Lansman’s resignation was on the consent agenda in January; no comment was made at the time.
Peters asked that Moore’s hiring be pulled from the consent agenda and the board approved all other items.
Peters then said, “I have one comment. I have 2-1/2 years left on this board. No other school employee has gone through the mob mentality and playground bullying that Dean Lansman went through. It has been the worst case of human social behavior that I’ve ever witnessed, and it will not happen again as long as I’m on this board.”
Peters then made the motion to approve Moore’s hiring.
Moore is a graduate of Ballard High School and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He has held coaching positions there, at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and at Iowa State University. The position in Greene County will be his first head coaching job.
