In Greene County district court Joe Edward Blackmon, 41, of Jefferson was sentenced March 14 to two years in prison on a charge of possession of methamphetamine- second offense, amended from possession of methamphetamine- third offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommendations at his own expense. His driver’s license was revoked for 180 days. Blackmon was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative (LEI) surcharge, a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE), $120 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $120 court costs.
A companion case in magistrate court in which Blackmon was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. Court costs were $80. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)
Brittany Kay Smith, 29, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment March 10 after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine- first offense. She was placed on informal probation for one year. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. Smith must pay a civil penalty of $315, E125 LEI surcharge, $90 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. A companion case in magistrate court in which Smith was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. Court costs were $60. (Sentencing: Kester)
Chad Ryan Plath, 22, of Ogden was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of fraudulent practices- third degree, amended from fraudulent practice- second degree. He was placed on probation for one year. Plath was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge and a $125 LEI; all was paid by bond forfeiture. A judgment was entered ford $161 court costs. Kristin Abbie Langfitt, 26, of Dana was granted a deferred judgment after she pleaded guilty to a charge of theft- third degree, amended from forgery. She must pay a civil penalty of $625 and a $125 LEI surcharge. She must also pay $743.07 restitution to Home State Bank and $166.44 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)
Brandon Michael Silbaugh, 23, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated (OWI)- first offense. He will be on informal probation for one year. He must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already undergone, as well as a drinking drivers school at a community college. Silbaugh must pay a civil penalty of $1,250 and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)
Scott Andrew Cram, 29, of Jefferson was sentenced to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of OWI- first offense. He must pay a sheriff’s fee for the time he serves. He must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already undergone, as well as a drinking drivers school at a community college. Cram was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge and a $10 DARE surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Kester)
Tanner Tate Guess, 26, of Scranton was sentenced to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of OWI- second offense. All but seven days of the prison term was suspended and Guess was placed on probation for two years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. His driver’s license was revoked for six years. Guess was fined $1,875 with a $656.25 surcharge and a $10 DARE surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Kester)
Persons pleaded not guilty as follows: Amy Gaines, 23, of Scranton, child endangerment, manufacture, deliver or possess with intent to manufacture or deliver marijuana within 500 feet of a school. A trial date was set for May 9.
