Greene County senior Hunter Ruth (220) earned a place in the state wrestling tournament with a first place finish in Class 2A District 8 wrestling in Webster City Saturday.
Ruth won both matches and takes a 30-3 record to the state tourney. He won by fall in 2:55 over Tim Elliott of Pocahontas in his first match, and then beat Number 10 rated Dominick Etherington of Algona in the finals by a 5-1 score. Ruth earned the win with a takedown with one second remaining in the match.
Ram senior Isaiah Yoder (182) placed third in the district. He lost 6-4 to Mason Carpenter of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, and then won 13-2 major decision over Philip Minkler of Pocahontas.
Ram freshman Garrett Tasler (106) lost by fall in :53 seconds to Eric Fought of Clear Lake. He then lost by fall in 1:02 to Austin Case of Garner-Hayfield-Ventura to finish fourth in the district tournament.
The state tournament is Feb. 16-18 in Des Moines.
