The Greene County girls varsity basketball team finished its regular season with a 4-17 record overall and 3-13 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. Their last game was a 56-17 loss to the Gilbert Tigers in Gilbert Feb. 7.
The Rams were scoreless until Laurin Lyons put up a basket with 13 seconds left to play in the first quarter. The Tigers had already scored 18 points. The score was 41-8 at halftime; the lead hit 35 points one minute into the quarter to got to continuous clock. The score was 49-15 after three quarters.
Hannah Promes scored seven points. Lyons finished the game with six points, Ashley Millard scored two, and Samantha Hardaway didn’t score until she put up a 2-point basket on the finishing buzzer.
The Rams made eight of 31 shots from the floor for 26 percent. They did not shoot a free throw in the entire game. The Tigers, now 8-13 on the season and 6-10 in the HOIAC, made 19 of 42 from the floor for 45 percent and made nine of 10 free throws.
The Rams begin post season play against the Knights at Kuemper High School in Carroll Saturday at 7 pm.
