A Ram freshman and a pair of senior qualified for the Class 2A District 8 wrestling tournament slated for next Saturday at Webster City High School by placing first or second at the sectional tournament in Humboldt Feb. 4.
Senior Tyson Ruth (28-3) placed first in the 220 lbs weight class. He pinned Tyler Lawrenson of Woodwood-Granger in 1:16 in the semifinals, and then pinned James Cherry of Webster City in 1:57 in the finals.
Freshman Garrett Tasler (25-20) finished second at 113 lbs. He beat Tanner Myer of Humboldt 10-2 in the semifinals and then lost by fall in 1:12 in the finals to Drake Doolittle of Webster City. In a second place wrestle back for a true second place, Tasler won by fall over Dilynn Lewiston of Woodward-Granger in 4:48.
Senior Isaiah Yoder (36-8) placed second at 182 lbs. He was a 10-5 winner over Brandon Peck of Webster City in the semifinals and lost 10-5 to Tanner Varmaas of Woodward-Granger.
Wrestlers from the Humboldt and Algona sectionals will compete in the district tournament Saturday, with four wrestlers from each weight class qualifying for the state tournament.
