A check for $100 is on its way from GreeneCountyNewsOnline to the Greene County Christian Action Resource Center food pantry. Readers helped GCNO reach a milestone on Friday. Website analytics showed readers looked at 100,926 pages over the 30 days ending Feb. 3. It was the first time since GCNO launched 39 months ago that 30-day page views topped 100,000.

The 40th annual Bike Ride to Rippey (BRR), organized by the Perry Chamber of Commerce with member sponsorships, drew an estimated 500 bicyclists. The roads were dry and clear, as were the shoulders. The temperature was in the lower 40s as afternoon arrived, but strong winds made it feel much colder. More than one cyclist was blown over by gusts.

The Greene County Community Center and the Greene County Middle School gym were busy places Saturday at the Jefferson park and recreation department hosted the first weekend of youth basketball tournaments. Greene County High School junior Gwen Black will be on the ballot for treasurer for 2017-18 of the southwest district of FFA. She competed against 25 other FFA members from across the district for a place on the ballot. The election will be held March 4 at the district FFA convention in Red Oak.

The popular Daddy Daughter Dance will return to the Greene County Community Center Friday, Feb. 17. Girls in preschool through fifth grade are invited to bring their father, grandfather or a father figure to the dance, which is hosted by the Jefferson park and recreation department.

More than half of Americans don’t use all their time off, resulting in 658 million unused vacation days a year. The inaugural National Plan for Vacation Day Jan. 31 was a call for workers to commit to when and where they’ll travel in 2017.
