The Paton-Churdan boys basketball team topped the Crusaders of Coon Rapids-Bayard in Churdan Tuesday by a score of 65-58.
The Rockets took an early lead and were up 11-0 before the Crusaders scored. The score after one quarter was 28-12. Score at halftime was 44-26 for the Rockets.
With the score 56-42 after three quarters the Rockets seemed to have the victory in hand, but a four minute scoring drought let the Crusaders come to within one point, 56-55 with four minutes to play in the game. The score was 61-58 with one minute to play, but four made free throws by the Rockets gave them the winning margin.
Junior Jake Berns led the Rockets in scoring with 20 points, including two 3-point baskets. Senior Chase Juergensen scored 16 points and also made two 3-point baskets. Junior Joe Towers had 15 points with three long baskets. Trevor Bundt scored seven points, Charlie Minnehan scored five points with a 3-pointer and Ty Miller scored two points.
The Rockets are now 8-8 overall after a 59-42 loss to the CAM Cougars in Anita Monday night. (No statistics were provided for that game.) The Crusaders are 8-7 overall.
