Skid continues for Ram girls

The Greene County girls varsity basketball team suffered another loss Friday, this time to the South Hamilton Hawks in Jewell. The Rams extended their losing streak to nine, while the Hawks ended a 12 game losing streak and got their first conference win.

The Rams were down by only two points, 12-10, after one quarter of play. Ram senior Kenna Marquardt, the team’s highest scorer this season, went out early in the second quarter with an apparent knee injury. The Rams scored only six points that quarter to the Hawks’ 12 to fall behind 24-18.

The Rams put up five unanswered points to start the third quarter and shortened the deficit to one point, 24-23, but they came up with just one more point in the quarter and they were behind 32-24 when the quarter ended. Final score was 45-31.

Unofficially the Rams shot at just 23 percent from the floor and committed 21 turnovers. The Hawks also committed 21 turnovers, but they shot at 52 percent.

Laurin Lyons led the Rams in scoring with 12 points. Hannah Promes scored five, including making the Rams’ only 3-point basket. Samantha Hardaway made four points, Marquardt and Taylor Wessling scored three, and Onica Delp and Ashley Millard had two each.
