The Paton-Churdan Rockets beat the Boyer Valley Bulldogs in boys hoops in Churdan Monday evening in double overtime, 83-77, after being behind most of the game.
The Rockets battled through the first half but were behind 30-25 at halftime. The Bulldogs stretched their lead to eight points with three minutes to play in the third quarter, but the Rockets narrowed the lead to five at the end of the quarter. With one minute to play in the game the Rockets were down 58-52, but two 3-point baskets and a trio of free throws for the Rockets, and a trio of free throws for the Bulldogs left the score tied at 61 at the end of regulation play. The score was tied at 69 after four more minutes of play.
In the second overtime the Rockets put up 14 points, starting with seventh 3-pointer of the game, followed by a pair of free throws, two field goals, and six more free throws. The Bulldogs put up a deuce and three free throws, and then tres during the second OT, and the Rockets won 83-77.
Boyer Valley’s Joe Weber impressed fans with a 41-point game. Jake Berns led the Rockets with 29 points, including three 3-point shots. Joe Towers scored 19 points, Charlie Minnehan scored 15 with one 3-pointer, Chase Juergensen score 12, and Ty Miller and Trevor Bundt scored four each.
The Rockets are now 6-6 overall.
