The Paton-Churdan Rockets hosted Charter Oak-Ute for a basketball Friday and came up with one loss and one win.
The girls shot much better than their season average of 29 percent, making 13 of 25 2-point shots and three of 10 3-point shots for 46 percent, but still came up on the short end of a 68-45 score. The Bobcats led 18-13 after one quarter, 37-23 after two quarters, and 56-37 after three quarters.
Jenna Beyers scored 22 points and led in rebounds with seven. Grace Geisler scored 11 points with three 3-point baskets, Briana Jewett scored seven, Ty Smith scored four and Megan Carey added one point.
The Bobcats are now 10-6 overall while the Rockets are 1-10.
The Rockets won the boys game in a game that came down to the last minute. The Rockets were up by two points at intermission, 24-22, and stretched their lead to 11 points at 47-36 going into the fourth quarter. With one minute to play the Bobcats had whittled the Rockets’ lead to four points, 55-51. In that last minute the Rockets put up seven points, all of them from the free throw line, and won 62-52.
Joe Towers led the Rockets in scoring with 25 points, with six of them from 3-point range. Jake Berns, Charlie Minnehan and Chase Juergensen also had 3-point baskets. Berns totaled 16 points, Juergensen had 11, Minnehan had seven and Trevor Bundt had three points.
Berns led in rebounds with nine and Juergensen had seven. Towers led in assists with four and in steals, also with four.
The Rockets are now 5-6 overall while the Bobcats are 7-8 overall.
The Rockets host Boyer Valley Monday.
