Ram girls lose sixth straight with loss 30-point loss to Comets

The Greene County girls varsity basketball team whittled a sizeable lead held by the North Polk Comets down to 10 points with two minutes to play in the third quarter in Tuesday night hoops, but lost in the middle school gym 70-40.

The Comets led the entire way, with the score 23-10 after the first quarter and 38-24 at halftime. The score was 46-34 going into the fourth quarter, but in that quarter the Comets were nearly unstoppable and they scored another 24 points for the final 70-40 score.

Unofficially the Rams were 12 of 33 from 2-point range and one of four from 3-point range. They made 13 of 20 free throws. Turnovers were high at 22.

Samantha Hardaway led the team in scoring with 12 points, well ahead of her 2.7 point average. Taylor Wessling scored 10 points and made the team’s lone 3-point basket. Kenna Marquardt and Onica Delp each scored six, Laurin Lyons scored four points and Regan Lamoureux scored two.

The loss puts the Rams at 3-11 overall and 2-7 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The Comets are 8-5 overall and 6-3 in the conference.

The Rams travel to Story City to play the Roland-Story Norsemen on Friday.
