We have quite a few new books and movies in. These include new releases of both. I am planning to do some science experiments with the kids next week. They seem to like them. My son Ty donated his BayBlade game to the library; the boys have loved it. I am glad because it gets them off the computers. We have had some books donated by Mary Weaver that are new reads. The adult patrons have enjoyed them. Please support your local library. ~by Shawneene Kenan, librarian

Rippey Lions Club: The Rippey Lions Club gathered for their first meeting in 2017. The group enjoyed sharing a potluck meal. During the business meeting the group began plans for serving the roast beef sundaes, chili and other food for the BRR Ride on Feb. 4.  The Lions will once again be one of the sponsors for the winter ride. Members will help prepare the food and serve on the day of the event.

Pastor Paul Burrow introduced the evening speaker, Pastor Lou Holger of Perry, coordinator of the Perry food pantry. He shared that the area served is the Perry school district and the pantry is open 9 am to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. They served more than 200 families, including more than 500 individuals in 2016. The pantry is located at Crossroads Church in Perry. He told the group of a community garden project, work through the FoodBank of Iowa and donations from the Perry community.

The next meeting will be Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Rippey United Methodist Church. Christmas weekend guests in the home of Virgene Morse were Diane and Terry Ostendorf, Ben, Michaela and Madelyn of Madrid, Kevin and Delores Blanshan of Waterloo, and Kelsey Blanshan of Ankeny. Regrets were sent by Eric and Dana as they were not able to travel to Iowa this holiday season, although they called to wish everyone Happy Holidays. Christmas Eve was spent eating Grandma’s vegetable soup and lots of munchies and playing games. Christmas Day was spent opening gifts, a big dinner, more munchies and new games. Good times, many laughs and memories were made, even though the weekend together went too quickly. Nancy and Dale Hanaman traveled  to Superior, WI, Thursday, Jan., 5, to celebrate the 13th birthday of their granddaughter Elizabeth Pearson, along with her parents Sarah and Benji and Steven and Andrea. They journeyed on to Rice Lake, WI, to honor their son Matthew, as he finished his degree in elementary education from UW-Superior. He completed a semester of student teaching in the Rice Lake Community Schools.
