The end of August marks the end of fundraising for the 2016 Relay for Life of Greene County. Relay chair Peg Raney reports the 2016 Relay, held April 23 at Greene County Community Center, grossed $41,903.75.

West central Iowa misses brunt of wet week
Above normal precipitation resulted in just 4.1 days suitable for fieldwork across Iowa during the week ending Aug. 28, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. Activities for the week included chopping corn for silage and planting cover crops. Producers continued to cut hay when conditions were dry enough.

The Greene County varsity volleyball team opened the 2016 season splitting a pair of Heart of Iowa matches in Saydel Aug. 30. The Rams topped the host Saydel Eagles 25-22, 25-7, 25-6. Coach Donna Carhill has experienced players returning this season, with junior Megan Durbin and all other starters seniors.

In Greene County magistrate court a judgment was entered Aug. 26 against Jody Lyn Schad of Jefferson on a charge of harassment- third degree. Schad was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $5 county enforcement surcharge and $140 court costs.
