Fareway Stores, Inc. is partnering with the U.S. Marine Corps on their 2016 Toys for Tots campaign. The program provides toys to less fortunate children during the holiday season. Stores are selling paper trains in $1 and $5 increments, as well as collecting new, unwrapped toys at all 116 Fareway locations from Monday, Nov. 28 through Saturday, Dec. 24.

Jefferson receives $80,000 in Main Street grants
The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) on Tuesday awarded $965,500 in Main Street Iowa Challenge grants to 14 communities around the state. The grants will benefit local improvement projects such as façade upgrades and restoration, upper floor rehabilitation, building stabilization and repairs and remodeled spaces for expanding downtown businesses. Jefferson police officers wrote eight citations and gave 56 warnings during a special Traffic Enforcement Project (sTEP) Nov. 20-27 according to JPD captain Heath Enns . Officers also investigated three accidents during that time. Officers wrote three citations for speed, three for driving with a suspended or revoked license, one for a registration violation and one for an equipment violation.
