Toys for Tots returns to Fareway stores

Fareway Stores, Inc. is partnering with the U.S. Marine Corps on their 2016 Toys for Tots campaign. The program provides toys to less fortunate children during the holiday season. Stores are selling paper trains in $1 and $5 increments, as well as collecting new, unwrapped toys at all 116 Fareway locations from Monday, Nov. 28 through Saturday, Dec. 24.

Jefferson receives $80,000 in Main Street grants

The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) on Tuesday awarded $965,500 in Main Street Iowa Challenge grants to 14 communities around the state. JPD tells results of special enforcement wave

Jefferson police officers wrote eight citations and gave 56 warnings during a special Traffic Enforcement Project (sTEP) Nov. 20-27 according to JPD captain Heath Enns . Officers also investigated three accidents during that time. Officers wrote three citations for speed, three for driving with a suspended or revoked license, one for a registration violation and one for an equipment violation.

IDNR previews shotgun deer season

The first of Iowa’s popular shotgun deer seasons is Dec. 3-7 when an expected 75,000 orange clad hunters head to the timber. That group will be followed by 50,000 hunters who prefer the Dec. 10-18 second gun season. Each contingent will also pack along thousands of antlerless tags, to extend their time in the field.
