A service of remembrance was held Dec. 30 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson for Elizabeth “Betty” DeWitt, 91, of Panora, formerly of Jefferson.
The Rev Julie Poulsen, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson, offered words of comfort.
Casket bearers were Marshall Charlesworth, Eric Campbell, Grant Campbell, Gaven Campbell, Gage Campbell and Travis Lowe. Interment was at the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery.
Elizabeth “Betty” Fagen DeWitt was born Sept. 15, 1925, in Detroit, MI, to Rolland Cady and Dorothy Flohrer Cady.
Betty grew up in Arizona and later moved to Scranton and graduated from Scranton High School in 1944.
On May 8, 1945, Betty was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” DeWitt. They were the parents of three children: Stephen, Susan, and Jack. They made their home in Jefferson. Betty worked for the Jefferson schools in the lunch room for almost 30 years before retiring.
Betty enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, arts and crafts, and women’s fashion. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson and was active with Jefferson P.A.W.S.
Betty died Dec. 28, 2016, at Panora Specialty Care in Panora. She was 91 years of age.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard “Dick” DeWitt in 2010. She is survived by her children: Stephen (Joanie) DeWitt of Marion and Susan DeWitt (Craig Cuddy) and Jack (Jo) DeWitt of Jefferson; six grandchildren and eight grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
