Join folks in the Scranton community as they celebrate the holiday season with two fun-filled days of activities this week: Thursday afternoon and Saturday evening.
Scranton Betterment is hosting the annual Christmas in Scranton open houses on Thursday, Dec. 1. Most businesses invite guests to stop in, visit and enjoy refreshments during the afternoon.
The schedule includes:
Landus Cooperative, 1 – 3 pm ~ “Haul” in some Holiday cheer with your friends.
MacDonald Insurance / Scranton Life & Health, 1 – 4 pm ~ Greet the staff, pick up a calendar and popcorn.
New Way (Scranton Mfg.) 1 – 4 pm ~ Open house at front office 1 – 4 pm. From 3 – 4 pm. See how the elves do their magic for a factory tour! Register for door prizes!
Peoples Bank, 1 – 4 pm ~ Meet your friends at Peoples Bank who will serve you a sweet treat and find the pickle.
Public library, 1 – 5 pm ~ Book sale at the library. Take a look at their “Wish” tree and pick out something to “gift” the library this season. Also renew your Friends membership which gives you a chance to win your choice of DVD.
Scranton city hall, 1 – 3 pm ~ Meet mayor Randy Winkelman and city officials at the new city hall location (east side Community Center). Decorating a community Christmas tree. Donate an ornament to represent your family’s Christmas spirit. All ornaments will be kept for the ongoing community Christmas tree.
Scranton Machine Shop, 1 – 4 pm ~ Tom Walker’s display of custom designs at Peoples Bank lobby. Sign up for a chance to win an 18”x 18” custom sign drawing.
Scranton post office, 11 am – 2 pm~ Your stop for Holiday stamps and sending and receiving holiday cheer.
Scranton Telephone Co. 1 – 4 pm ~ Don’t just call, stop in to visit with your friends and pick up your 2017 phone book.
The event concludes with a pork loin dinner fundraiser from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the Community Center. A free will donation will benefit the Scranton All School Alumni committee. Register for a free drawing for a holiday ham compliments of Scranton Betterment.
Saturday evening, the Scranton city and parks departments are hosting “Cocoa and Cookies” with the Clauses. First youngsters are invited to make holiday crafts at the Marchant Memorial Library at 5:30 pm. Santa and Mrs Claus are expected to arrive on the fire truck at Gazebo Park on Main Street at 6 pm. where the holiday lights will be lit. There will be photo opportunities and surprises along with holiday music by the Greene County High School students.
