The Greene County Ram girls basketball team dropped its season opener Tuesday to PCM in Monroe 68-27.
Too many turnovers and a 10 minute scoring drought doomed the Rams. The Mustangs held a five point lead, 14-9, after one quarter and the a six point lead at 24-18 midway through the second quarter. Before the Rams scored again with just longer than two minutes to play in the third quarter the Mustangs were ahead 41-18.
The Rams took 33 shots from the floor, less than half of the Mustangs’ total. The Rams also had a difficult time taking care of the ball, with 33 turnovers to the Mustangs’ eight.
The Rams were led in scoring by junior Laurin Lyons with 11 points, nine of them before the second quarter drought. Senior Hannah Promes scored eight points and senior Taylor Wessling scored five.
The Rams’ 27 points was very close to their 26.6 point average from the 2015-16 campaign.
The Rams open the home season with a Monday night girl-boy twin bill against the Ogden Bulldogs. The girls game will begin at 6 pm and the boys will play at 7:30 in the middle school gym.
