There will be a variety of houses on this year’s Jefferson Garden Club Tour of Homes ranging from early 1900s Craftsman to 1950 and 1970 ranch.
The four homes will all be decorated for Christmas by Dec. 3 and ready to show their “Christmas Collections,” this year’s theme. The Tour of Homes takes place from noon to 4 pm.
Tickets are available from Garden Club members and at Home State Bank, Peoples Trust & Savings Bank and The Printer’s Box. On the day of the tour, tickets may be purchased at The Printer’s Box and in the Greene County courthouse rotunda, where the club will offer refreshments and display holiday collections.
Jeanette and Tom Flack’s 1950s rambling ranch home will be decorated with family heirlooms and collections. Their spacious and comfortable house on W. Adams St is tucked away in a wooded area. Jeanette has five trees placed in different rooms. One tree will be decorated with Precious Moments figurines. This tree has special meaning because each grandchild and great-grandchild has their own ornament. Beautiful antique blue-and-white china from the Victorian era known as Flow Blue is on display. Also for viewing is Jeanette’s collection of P. Buckley Moss prints.
Kathy and Steve Cuddy have been remodeling their Craftsman home on S. Maple St since moving in. The beautiful older home built in 1907 has well preserved oak woodwork throughout. The original stained glass windows above the stair landing are especially eye-catching when the sun shines through.
Many of the Christmas decorations are family heirlooms or gifts from friends and include collections of snowmen, Santa Clauses and white ceramic figures. Glass vases of various sizes are displayed on the buffet in the dining room. Each step of the stairway is adorned with a different sized snowman. A special delight of the tour is the sun porch which encloses the stone chimney and is decorated with a holiday tree and a traditional ceramic Christmas village.
The spacious home of Gina and Tom Harrington on S. Wilson has been recently renovated. Built in early 1900 the family has carefully preserved the oak interiors and gray stucco exterior. A feeling of warmth and comfort is felt throughout but especially in the large kitchen. Here a huge farmhouse cupboard has been redone and built in. The cupboard is a family heirloom coming from Tom’s side of the family. A painting of Gina’s mother is decorated for the holidays with family Christmas stockings made from an old family quilt. Other paintings done by Gina can be viewed throughout the house.
The 1970s ranch-style house on Rushridge Road is home to Darla and Terry Johnson. Extensive remodeling has been done recently. Darla’s color scheme of gray, blue and red blends well with her Christmas decorations. Heirloom furniture including a buffet and hutch are great spots for displays. The wine glasses on the dining room table were painted by Darla and Terry’s youngest daughter and complement the Christmas place settings. Darla made several centerpieces using containers salvaged from an old barn and arranged them with evergreen, berries and pinecones. One of the Christmas trees on the main floor is adorned with burlap and red decorations. The mantle above the fireplace holds a Christmas village, each piece a gift from her family, particularly her son.
