News in and around Rippey:

Members of the Bye Bye Blues met Thursday, Nov. 10, in the home of Doris Brown for a noon potluck. The food was bountiful, as usual, and the group was grateful for the good weather that enabled the friends to gather together for the last time this year.  Those attending included Eleanor Alex, Meladee Graven and Kyle Graven from Grand Junction, Marilyn Pentico, Lois McDowell, Donna Ridnour, and Midge Vannatta from Perry, and Iva Jo Muir from Rippey.  Regrets were sent by Jean Borgeson. They vowed to have a good, healthy winter and look forward to their first meeting in the spring of 2017.

Madrid high school play – Virgene Morse and Jean Borgeson attended the Madrid High School play on Saturday, Nov. 12.  Virgene’s granddaughter Madelyn Ostendorf was part of the cast. They were guests in the home of Terry and Diane Ostendorf for a soup supper before attending the performance.  Others enjoying the evening were Ben and Michaela Ostendorf and her friend Sam.

The play, “WhoDunit..and to Whom?” by Robert Frankel is a spoof about a henpecked paint salesman, Harold Finnegan, who is trying to write yet another, third-rate detective story.  As he types, the characters play out his thoughts on stage and as he corrects his writing the actors are forced to revise their actions.  It was fast-paced, and you could tell the cast had worked hard on this particular performance.

Dawson High School class of 1949 – Recently, Midge (Bryan) Vannatta, along with Velma (Elliott) McDowell of Perry and Virginia (Lueders) Kinney of Yale, traveled to Madrid to the home of Joan (Latta) Ludwig for a class reunion. They are the last of the girls of the graduating class of 1949 from Dawson High School. Joan served a delicious lunch and the talking, laughing, and reminiscing never stopped until it was time to go. A great time was had by all four ladies and when they left, they all had one or two canes to help them down the stairs, which reminded them how thankful they were to be able to be together!
