Bella Linberg (left) and Sadie Gilbertson, sixth graders at Greene County Intermediate School, visited Greene County Medical Center last week to make a $314 donation. They presented a check to Aleah Ferguson (right), a chemotherapy nurse. Ferguson will use the money to purchase “celebration gifts” for patients having their last chemotherapy treatments.

The fundraiser sprouted from a project for the sixth grade Life Skills class. The assignment was to find a partner, pick a topic to learn about and bring awareness to. It was October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the girls decided to take it a step further. They made a few pink beaded bracelets, and then  made more to sell.

They sold the bracelets at school and at high school football games, and more bracelets were sold at the medical center auxiliary’s Gift Garden.

The girls worked independently, without help from their parents. Bella’s mother Toni Wetrich said she didn’t know how far the girls had gone with the project until it was time to present the check.
