Katrina’s Korner- So much fun Saturday, October 29. I honestly cannot put into words my appreciation and gratitude to everyone that helped with the Fall Festival and Cartober Fest. I was hoping for 20 cars and we had 45. Lots of kids and visitors painted pumpkins, popped balloons for pizza prizes, got their faces painted, played bean bags, ate soup and pork loins and got some yummy treats at the bake sale and then stayed to watch Hocus Pocus.
Congratulations to our two raffle winners for the 50/50 and a night’s stay at Hotel Pattee and the winners of our People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Car, Truck and Tractor – Favorite Car was won by Rippey’s own Mark Day for his 1968 Chevy Camaro, Cory Dunn won for Favorite Truck and Dennis Owens won for Favorite Tractor.
Thank you to everyone who helped by baking goodies, making soup, cleaning up, decorating, helping throughout the day and all those that came out to enjoy a beautiful day in Rippey.
This is my last post as librarian and I can’t think of a better day to end my time at the Rippey Library than the one I had Saturday! Thank you all!….Katrina

News in and around Rippey:
Phil and Toni Roberts made several trips to Winterset and Algona this month to help their children and to see relatives. They attended the Covered Bridge Festival in Winterset on Oct. 9 to see their granddaughter Josie Burdett march in the parade. Josie played clarinet in the junior high band while her sisters Addie and Lily rode on a float for their dance group. Preceding the parade they celebrated Wendy and Tony’s anniversary (Sept. 30) and Wendy’s birthday (Oct. 1) with a rib dinner supplied by the couple. Later that month the couple returned to Winterset to help with their granddaughters while Wendy attended continuing ed courses. Since Tony was working late that evening Phil drove Josie and Addie to officers training for 4-H while Toni prepared supper and helped Lily with her chores and homework- remembering similar chores with their own children long ago!
In the middle of the month they attended a birthday party for their great-grandson Wesley Roberts at the home of Wes’ aunt and uncle Mallory and Gene Dillavou in Jefferson. Wes turned 4 and was accompanied by his mom, Morgan Roberts from Emmetsburg.
On Sunday, Oct. 23, Toni and Phil drove to Algona to see Toni’s sister Joyce Macek. After eating dinner at a local restaurant they drove through the Ambrose State Park to view the colorful trees before returning Joyce to her assisted living apartment at Huskamp Haven. It was a very enjoyable drive with beautiful fall scenery.
Jean Borgeson joined other family members for lunch in Perry on Oct. 24. Those attending were Lorna Fogue and her children Vickie and R. W. of Des Moines, Carrel Oakes of Wesley Acres, Des Moines, Jean’s sister Elayne Bice of Johnston and their cousin Bill Siglin of Woodward. All share ancestors, and it is always enjoyable to hear stories of Lorna’s childhood memories, as she is the 96-year-old first cousin of Hope (Carrel) Darling and Virginia (Carrel) Siglin, who are the mothers of Jean, Elayne and Bill. This small branch of the family tree has met twice a year for many years. Now that Vickie is retired, she and Jean decided that a brief lunch date wouldn’t be enough time to sort out the family tree, and they have good intentions of getting together by themselves to share each other’s information.
