The future of St Brigid Catholic Church in Grand Junction remains in limbo.
St Brigid Church is one of 40 churches named last March on a list of churches being considered to close or transition to oratory status by the Sioux City diocese as part of Ministry 2025. There are currently 108 churches; the diocese wants to reduce that number due in large part to a decrease in the number of ordained priests.
Fr Jeff Schleisman, pastor of the Greene County Catholic churches, had said Oct. 23 he would be able to announce the final plan Oct. 30. He told parishioners on Sunday that there are still “many details to sift through” and that plan is “still being molded and fashioned.”
He said the announcement would be made “sometime in November.”
