Adopt-a-Family gearing up for 2016 food basket project

Greene County Adopt-a-Family’s Christmas campaign is under way.

Registration forms are available for families needing assistance at New Opportunities Family Development Center at 1401 N. Elm in Jefferson. This is the only location for forms.

“We are continuing to develop our partnership with New Opportunities with the goal of having one central location for Greene County where programs such as Christmas Food baskets and Operation Warm Hearts can be serviced. This means families may only need to make one stop to register for available assistance,” stated an AAF board member.

The deadline for forms is Nov. 21. Applicants are required to provide the names and ages of all adults and children residing in the household and a functioning phone number.

Food baskets will be distributed to each household on Saturday, Dec. 17, from 11 am to 12:30 pm at Clover Hall on the Greene County fairgrounds in Jefferson. For food safety reasons, all baskets must be picked up during the distribution time.

In 2015 food and other household items were provided to 185 Greene County families. The board is anticipating serving even more families this year.

In October, Operation Warm Hearts distribution provided coats, snow pants, boots and other winter outerwear to 110 Greene County children.

As always, monetary contributions are needed to purchase food and other Christmas basket items. Monetary donations can be mailed to AAF, PO Box 364, Jefferson 50129, or deposited directly at any local Peoples Trust & Savings Bank location.

“Greene County is a generous community and we come together to support our friends and neighbors. Adopt-a- Family appreciates the community’s generosity, and looks forward to another successful holiday campaign,” the spokesperson said.
