Also an Election Night fundraiser supper
The Churdan public library will present Iowa author Linda Betsinger McCann and “Prohibition in Eastern Iowa” Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 6:30 pm at the library.
While most people know of organized crime and Al Capone in Chicago, they forget that Capone was in Iowa as well, and that there were murders in Iowa over alcohol, too.
McCann researched and writes that whatever happened nationwide happened in Iowa. She interviewed the children of moonshiners and bootleggers and was surprised by the reasons their fathers chose to break the law.
There is no charge for the program; McCann will have books available for purchase.
The library will also sponsor an Election Night meal with a Mexican Night/burger special at Burgers, Dogs and More (formerly Churdan Grill) from 5 to 8 pm. Proceeds will go to the library’s building fund.
