The last weekend of viewing autumn colors from the observation deck of the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower is this weekend, Oct. 29-30. Weekend hours are 10 am to 4 pm.
After Sunday, bell tower souvenirs, including flat and 3-D magnets, key tags, snow globes, pencils and T-shirts will be available at Homestead Bakery and Coffee. Wine and shot glasses and sterling silver charms are available at Royal Jewelers.
The bell tower will be open for group tours and special events by calling the Chamber of Commerce at 515-386-2155. Weekend hours will resume next May, but watch for completion of the complete carillon in March or April. The bell tower is open daily in June, July and August.
“We have had a busy, exciting year at the tower, with new bells, new souvenirs, new visitors from near and far, and so many new sights to see from the top of the tower,” said Pat Richards, volunteer coordinator for the tower. “We’re already looking forward to a very special guest, Santa Claus, after the annual tree lighting Dec. 1.”
