Greene County varsity volleyball coach Donna Carhill was pleased with her team’s play against the North Polk Comets in Jefferson Thursday, even though the result was a loss in four sets.
“We played well against a strong offensive opponent. I felt this is the best we’ve played in quite a while. We moved quicker on the defensive side, ran our offense quicker in transition, and served more aggressively,” Carhill said.
Scores were 20-25, 18-25, 25-21, 17-25.
Emily Heupel was 19 of 19 serving with one ace. Hannah Stein was 17 of 17 serving and Hannah Promes was 13 for 13 with three aces.
Megan Durbin had 18 kills and Nadia Fisher had 11. Promes had 33 assists and 18 digs, and Heupel had 17 digs.
The Comets are rated #13 in Class 3A and are 6-1 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The Rams are 2-6 in the HOIAC and 9-21 overall.
“Even though this counts against us as a loss, I believe we saw improvement all around, but particularly in the confidence level of the team,” the coach said.
