Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Friday, Sept. 30: At 8:27 am a deputy was advised of a harassment concern in Churdan.
Thursday, Sept. 29: At 3:24 pm a deputy investigated a two vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of H Ave and 260th St in Jackson Township. Mark Allen Cranston, 64, of Jefferson, was westbound on 260th St when he struck the rear of a southbound vehicle being driven by Kenneth Duane Pedersen, 71, of Jefferson. Damage to the Pedersen 2008 GMC pickup was estimated to be $15,000. Damage to the Cranston 2011 Ford Econoline 250 was estimated to be $7,500. No injuries were reported to either driver but Cranston was cited for failure to yield to vehicle on right.
Wednesday, Sept. 28: At 7:09 am a deputy was dispatched to the 1800 block of R Ave in Hardin Township for a car-deer accident. The vehicle was driven from the scene. At 9:44 am a deputy located and arrested Michael Hamilton, 39, of Jefferson on an outstanding warrant from Greene County for domestic abuse assault- second offense. At 6:14 pm deputies from Greene and Webster Counties were unable to locate a suspicious vehicle that was reported to be northbound on County Road P-46 (X Ave) from Highway 30.
Tuesday, Sept. 27: At 3:39 pm deputies investigated an accident involving two semi tractor-trailers on Highway 25 (E Ave) just south of Scranton. The Iowa State Patrol did the report for the accident. At 8:19 pm a deputy was requested to assist two probation officers in the 800 block of East Hager Street in Grand Junction. At 10:39 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 700 block of Main Street in Scranton.
Monday, Sept. 26: At 10:31 am a deputy investigated a complaint of horses out in the 100 block of County Road E-63 (330th St) in Willow Township. At 11:12 am a deputy investigated a complaint of cattle on the roadway in the 1900 block of County Road P-30 (Q Ave) in Grant Township. At 12:46 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 1000 block of Main St in Scranton. At 1:24 pm a deputy investigated a theft complaint in the 100 block of Main St in Rippey. At 5:16 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 700 block of Stanton St in Scranton. At 5:41 pm a deputy assisted the JPD with a criminal mischief complaint in the 600 block of E. Lincoln Way. 7:30 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 300 block of W. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 10:53 pm a deputy investigated a dog running at large complaint in the 900 block of Jefferson St in Scranton.
Sunday, Sept. 25: At 2:32 pm a deputy and Grand Junction fire and rescue assisted Boone County authorities with traffic control on Highway 30 at Highway 169 west of Ogden after a five-vehicle accident. At 3:51 pm a deputy was advised of three youth littering and causing criminal mischief in the Grand Junction Cemetery.
Saturday, Sept. 24: At 5:15 pm a deputy was dispatched to Churdan for two suspicious vehicles reported to be near the city park area.
Friday, Sept. 23: At 2:17 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of Main St in Rippey to investigate criminal mischief to the tail lights of a pickup. At 8:01 pm a deputy was advised of two dogs running at large on 250th St near E Ave in Cedar Township. The deputy located one of the dogs and transported it to the animal shelter in Jefferson. At 8:31 pm an Iowa State Patrol officer assisted a deputy who was busy on another call with a car-deer accident on Eaton Ave near Brown bridge.
Thursday, Sept. 22: At 12:48 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson lire department and Greene County EMS with a fire call at 108 West Wilcox Way in Jefferson. Cause of the fire was a space heater than ignited a nearby couch. Damage was confined to the basement and was not extensive. Firefighters were at the scene for about an hour. The home is owned by Margaret Dohrer. At 9:02 am a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a reported suspicious vehicle in the 1600 block of 150th St in Dawson Township and after an investigation arrested Tyson James Ruth, 35, and Joey Ann Godwin, 35, both of Jefferson, for criminal mischief- fourth degree (serious misdemeanor) and possession of burglary tools (aggravated misdemeanor)*. At 2:57 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of S. 7th St in Grand Junction for a trespassing concern.
Wednesday, Sept. 21: At 1:31 am a deputy assisted a JPD officer with investigating a vehicle with three occupants parked in the ShopKo parking lot in Jefferson. The JPD officer made several arrests involving the violation of a no contact order.
Tuesday, Sept. 20: At 9:12 am a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of Sand St in Churdan to investigate a harassment and trespassing concern. At 10:50 pm a deputy assisted a JPD officer with trying to locate two males that were reported to be running around a home in the area of 200 E. Vest St in Jefferson.
Monday, Sept. 19: At 12:51 am a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of Howard St in Rippey to investigate two suspicious persons reported to be entering an out building on the property. At 9:47 am a deputy was advised by a resident in the 400 block of 140th St om Cedar Township of receiving a phone call from a collection agency trying to collect an unpaid balance for services that she had no knowledge of or asked for. At 1:09 pm a deputy was unable to find a reported dog running at large in the 500 block of State St in Scranton. At 9:30 pm two deputies assisted JPD officers with responding to a call in the 500 block of N. Oak St in Jefferson. At 11 pm a deputy was dispatched to the water treatment plant in Scranton to investigate a reported suspicious vehicle parked along the roadway. The deputy spoke with the driver and her passenger as to their reason for being in the area.
Sunday, Sept. 18: At 6:19 am a deputy was dispatched to the Union Pacific railroad right-of-way north of Grand Junction at the 200th St crossing for the report of several male subjects trespassing on railroad property. The described vehicle was not located upon the deputy’s arrival. At 10 am a deputy was again advised by the Union Pacific railroad of another male subject trespassing on the right of way in Dana. At 11:47 pm a deputy was advised of criminal mischief to a candidate’s election signs at several locations throughout the county. At 3:08 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of 11th Street S in Grand Junction for several dogs trespassing and defecating on another person’s property.
Saturday, Sept. 17: At 10:20 am a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of Percival Street in Grand Junction for a trespassing/harassment concern. At 11:18 am a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of Howard St in Rippey for a trespassing concern. Charges are pending on a 23- year-old male subject. At 11:42 am a deputy was advised of a dog running at large in the 700 block of County Road P-46 (W Ave) in Junction Township. At 11:52 am a deputy was advised of another dog running at large in the Dunbar Slough area. The dog was never located. At 2:35 pm a deputy was advised of careless and dangerous driving on private property in the 700 block of Railroad St in Grand Junction. At 2:40 pm a deputy was advised by the Guthrie County sheriff’s office of a suspected intoxicated driver entering Greene County from Guthrie County on Highway 4. The described vehicle was located south of Jefferson and followed by the deputy to witness the driver’s actions. The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and subsequently arrested Mark Lane, 61, of Jefferson for operating while intoxicated- second offense*.
Friday, Sept. 16: At 4:56 am a deputy was dispatched to the Union Pacific Railroad crossing on X Ave, just north of Highway 30 east of Grand Junction, to assist the driver of a semi-tractor trailer as the trailer jack stands had become stuck on the tracks as he was attempting to cross. Train traffic was halted for several hours as a large wrecker was called to the scene. At 1:09 pm the chief deputy assisted the JPD with a reported fight in progress in the area of W. Reed and N. Oak St. At 4:22 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1000 block of Cedar St in Scranton for an altercation involving an adult bullying and harassing a juvenile male. After an investigation Jamie Jo Francis Theulen, 20, of Scranton was arrested for trespass and assault, both simple misdemeanors*. At 7:15 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1100 block of State St in Scranton to investigate criminal mischief to a car window. The window was shot out with either a BB or pellet gun. A male subject was identified and charges are pending further investigation. At 7:42 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of Howard St in Rippey to investigate the report of trespassing on private property. The deputy subsequently arrested Fashion Marie Foster, 41, of Grimes for disorderly conduct and trespass (simple misdemeanors)*. At 11:26 pm a deputy assisted a JPD officer and Greene County EMS with a medical call for an out of control female at the Sparky’s One Stop in Jefferson. At 11:39 pm a deputy was asked to put down an injured deer that was paralyzed from being struck by a car near Hawthorn Lane and Westwood Drive in Jefferson.
Thursday, Sept. 15: At 7:22 am Greene County deputies assisted Jefferson police officers with the retrieval of a pickup that was stolen from a residence in Jefferson and located several hours later at Goose Lake in the 700 block of M Ave in Bristol Township. At 10:06 am a deputy was asked to help locate a Greene County resident who is the owner of an abandoned vehicle left at the high school in Ogden. The Ogden police department and the Boone County sheriff’s office were requesting the car be moved or towed. At 5:10 pm a deputy was dispatched to help a motorist with a flat tire on Highway 30 near Orchard Ave east of Jefferson.
Wednesday, Sept. 14: At 6:55 am a deputy was dispatched to the intersection of County Road N-65 (D Ave) and 182nd St in Kendrick Township to check an abandoned vehicle sitting partially on the roadway. The car was towed for safety concerns. At 4:55 pm a deputy was out of position and unable to locate a reported erratic driver, driving at a high rate of speed, on Highway 30 entering Greene County from Carroll County. At 6:24 pm a deputy patrolling in Grand Junction recognized the driver of a pickup truck who was known to be barred from driving. The deputy then initiated a traffic stop on that vehicle and subsequently arrested Christopher Hollis Christian, 36, of Grand Junction on an outstanding warrant from Greene County for theft- fifth degree and driving while barred*. At 7:50 pm a deputy was advised of several motorcycles racing up and down the roadway in the 400 block of County Road E-13 (110th St) in Cedar Township. The Iowa State Patrol was also advised of the situation. At 11:02 pm a deputy checked the report of cattle along the roadway in the 2000 block of U Ave in Washington Township. The deputy chased several calves back to the pasture.
Tuesday, Sept. 13: At 9 am two deputies provided traffic control in Churdan while city employees cleared a tree from the roadway. 7:03 pm a deputy was dispatched to the Sparky’s One Stop in Rippey for a gas drive off. The vehicle was reported to have Dallas County plates and was not found by the deputy at that time. At 7:49 pm a deputy was advised of the theft of tomatoes, still on the vine, from a resident’s front porch in the 800 block of North St in Churdan. At 7:42 pm a deputy spoke with a resident in the 500 block of 11th Street South in Grand Junction about a trespassing concern.
Monday, Sept. 12: At 1:23 pm a deputy was advised by Greene County secondary roads of locating trash that had been illegally dumped on 260th St west of M Ave in Jackson Township. An identifying name was located within the trash. At 2:44 pm deputies were advised of a westbound erratic driver that was approaching Jefferson on County Road E-53. A deputy initiated a traffic stop on that described vehicle and subsequently arrested Travis Austin Smith, 25, of Jefferson on an outstanding Greene County warrant for domestic abuse*. At 9:58 pm a deputy assisted a Jefferson police officer with trying to locate a Churdan resident who had not returned a carpet cleaner to the ShopKo store in Jefferson.
Sunday, Sept. 11: At 8:36 am a deputy was not able to locate a reported German shepherd dog running at large in 1600 block of 237th St in Grant Township. At 5:38 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction to investigate threats being made towards the male subject. At 5:49 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 400 block of 16th St North in Grand Junction for a harassment concern. At 6:02 pm a deputy spoke with a Scranton resident in the 1100 block of State St about the theft of personal property from his pickup sometime in the last 24 hours. At 6:04 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of State St in Scranton to pick up a bag with an unknown material that was found on the city parking area. At 8:20 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 200 block of E. Anyer St in Dana to investigate a harassment concern.
Saturday, Sept. 10: At 2:55 pm a deputy assisted Jefferson police officers with traffic control after a two vehicle accident at Lincoln Way and Elm St. At 3:16 pm a deputy was dispatched to Grand Junction to try and locate a dog running at large near the downtown area. The described dog was never located. At 6:47 pm a deputy spoke with a resident in the 1100 block of Lincoln St in Scranton about criminal mischief to her property.
Friday, Sept. 9: At 8:25 am a deputy was dispatched to remove an unwanted transient camper from behind Hamilton Redi-Mix. The transient, his dog and his small wagon of possessions were moved to points further east. At 9:45 pm a deputy was advised of anhydrous ammonia vapors leaking from a tank at the Landus Cooperative plant south of Paton. The plant manager was advised of the smell.
Thursday, Sept. 8: At 6:26 am, a deputy was dispatched to E. Railroad and N. 19th St in Grand Junction to investigate a hit and run accident that damaged an electrical power box. At 10:34 am a deputy was dispatched to the 1200 block of 245th St in Scranton Township to remove a deer carcass from the roadway. At 11:48 am a deputy was asked to pick up two bicycles that were abandoned along the roadway at County Road E-33 (190th St) and H Ave in Bristol Township. At 4:51 pm a deputy was dispatched to Scranton to investigate a suspicious package found on the corner of Main and Stanton St. At 5:32 pm a deputy was dispatched to Scranton to pick up a dog that was running at large in the 900 block of Eagle St. The dog was taken to the animal shelter in Jefferson. At 6:56 pm a deputy was able to locate the owner of several dogs that were reported to be chasing cattle in the 1000 block of P Ave in Hardin Township. The owner was advised that by Iowa code, dogs chasing, worrying, maiming or killing domestic livestock, are subject to destruction. At 9:09 pm a deputy and an Iowa State Patrol officer responded to the 400 block of Cartwright St in Rippey to help the family of a juvenile male that was out of control and threatening family members.
Wednesday, Sept. 7: At 1:38 am a deputy was unable to stop a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed the deputy meet on County Road P-40 (U Ave) and 290th St west of Rippey. The deputy began to pursue the car at a high rate of speed, but decided the pursuit was too dangerous on the dusty gravel roads. At 12:38 pm a deputy was advised of an abandoned bicycle at the corner Hager and 15th St in Grand Junction. A city employee was asked to remove the bike and place in impound lot. At 2:13 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1000 block of E. Sandoe St in Grand Junction to investigate the reported theft of prescription medication. At 9:33 pm a deputy assisted a JPD officer with a call in the 300 block of E. Gallup Road in Jefferson. A11:23 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of County Road E-53 (190th St) in Bristol Township for the report of several youth riding their bicycles eastbound on 190th. The deputy was unable to locate the youth.
Tuesday, Sept. 6: At 2:41 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 200 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction to investigate a harassment concern. At 2:50 pm a deputy was advised of unauthorized persons trespassing on private property in the 600 block of Brentwood Ave in Cedar Township. The deputy made contact with all persons involved. At 8:21 pm a deputy assisted a Jefferson police officer with trying to locate a described vehicle that drove away from Sparky’s One Stop in Jefferson without paying for the fuel.
Monday, Sept. 5: At 10:18 am a deputy was advised of a harassment concern by a Grand Junction resident in the 300 block of North 13th St. At 11 am a deputy was asked to assist the Jefferson police department in trying to locate a vehicle that was involved in a theft in Jefferson. At 5:03 pm a deputy assisted the JPD with a domestic altercation in the 200 block of N. Chestnut St. At 5:10 pm a deputy, the Churdan fire department and Greene County EMS were all dispatched to a structure fire in the 700 block of 130th St in Highland Township. The deputy reported only minor damage was sustained to a sheep /lambing barn. Electrical problems were thought to be the cause. At 6:14 pm a deputy was asked to assist the JPD with an altercation in the 500 block of N. Chestnut St in Jefferson. Several persons were arrested and transported to the Law Enforcement Center. At 10 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction to investigate a suspicious person that may be attempting to enter a home. A male subject was found by the deputy and questioned as to his intensions.
Sunday, Sept. 4: At 10:17 am a deputy assisted Greene County EMS with a medical call in the 1600 block of Highway 25 just south of Scranton. At 6 pm a deputy located a 4-wheel ATV in the 300 block of 13th St South in Grand Junction that was reported taken from a residence in Grand Junction earlier in the day.
Saturday, Sept. 3: At 11:05 am a deputy recovered the stolen moped from the previous day in a bean field at the intersection of 185th St and County Road P-46 (W Ave). At 12:10 pm a deputy was advised of a resident in Rippey finding what he believed to be drug paraphernalia in his front yard. At 12:48 pm a deputy and an Iowa State Patrol officer both assisted Greene County Emergency Medical Services personnel with a medical call involving a motorcycle accident in the 900 block of 222nd St in Jackson Township. At 4:22 pm a deputy was dispatched for a minor single vehicle accident at Spring Lake Park. The deputy reported that no accident report was needed.
Friday, Sept. 2: At 7:59 am a deputy was unable to locate a described vehicle leaving Scranton in which the driver was reported to not have a valid driver’s license. At 3:07 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of North 18th St in Grand Junction to investigate a trespassing concern. At 3:12 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of North 16th St in Grand Junction for a reported stolen moped. The described moped was entered into the state system as stolen.
Thursday, Sept. 1: At 12:05 am a deputy was dispatched to the 400 block of Howard St in Rippey to try and locate two suspicious persons reported to be walking in the downtown area. At 4:50 am a deputy was dispatched to Rippey for a vehicle that had struck a utility pole. Kristina Jo Quillen, 36, of Rippey reported she was westbound on Percival St and attempting to make a left turn onto 1st St when other vehicles distracted her and she struck the Alliant Energy utility pole. Quillen was not injured but her 2008 Chrysler Town and Country Van sustained an estimated $10,000. At 9:56 am a deputy responded to a harassment concern in Scranton. At 10:06 am a deputy was dispatched to the 2300 block of County Road E-26 (170 St) east of Dana for a farm tractor that was forced off the roadway and came to rest on its side in the north ditch. The driver of the tractor, Michael Joseph Coil, 38, of Jefferson reported that he was eastbound on E-26 when a vehicle tried to pass him and had to move back into his lane to avoid an oncoming westbound car. Coil reported that he drove the tractor onto the shoulder of the roadway to avoid the other vehicles. The John Deere 4450 tractor then entered the ditch and came to rest on its right side. Coil was not injured but the tractor, which is owned by James Holz of rural Grand Junction, was estimated to be a total loss. At 5:36 pm a deputy was out of position and unable to locate a reported erratic driver on Highway 30 near X Ave east of Grand Junction. At 6:45 pm a deputy located and arrested Eric Wayne Bellinghausen, 36, of Jefferson for a probation violation*. At 11:41 pm a deputy assisted a Jefferson police officer with a call in the 300 block of N. Wilson.
*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
