Income guidelines for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) have been announced. Applications for the program will be accepted on a first come/first served basis at the New Opportunities Greene County Family Development Center on N. Elm in Jefferson beginning Oct. 1 for households with an elderly/disabled member, or beginning Nov. 1 for others.
Applicants will need to show their Social Security cards or I94 card, a copy of their most recent heating and electric bill, and proof of all household members’ gross income for the past three months or for the past year.
LIHEAP is not designed to pay a household’s total energy cost, but to provide supplemental assistance based on several factors. Those factors include total household income, household size, dwelling type, and type of heating fuel, among others.
