Ram v’ball team goes 2-3 at S. Hardin tourney

The Greene County Ram varsity volleyball team traveled to Eldora Sept. 10 for the South Hardin tournament. The Rams went 2-3 in games and 6-7 in sets.

According to coach Donna Carhill, the Rams started strong against South Hardin but lost momentum, with set scores 21-13, 13-21, 10-15. The Rams came out after a long break and topped Oelwein 21-14, 21-10. (Oelwein finished the day as pool winners.) The Rams started a match against Grandview Christian with a 21-14, but “we just couldn’t minimize errors enough and lost to GVC in a close match,” the coach said. The Rams dropped the second set 16-21 and the third set 14-16.

Carhill said the Rams again started out well against Gladbrook-Reinbeck, but didn’t have enough momentum to avenge the loss in pool play to Grandview Christian. Set scores vs Gladbrook Reinbeck were 23-25 25-23, 15-4. Scores against Grandview Christian were 21-25, 21-25.

“I felt that our defense and passing have improved and we’re working on minimizing errors, especially hitting and serving errors,” the coach said.

Kenna Marquart and Hannah Stein were both perfect at the service line, with Marquardt at 67 of 67 and three aces, and Stein at 36 of 36 with four aces. Emily Heupel was 49 of 50 with three aces.

Nadia Fisher led in kills with 39. Megan Durbin had 32 and Stein had 24. Hannah Promes racked up 108 assists.
