Elks to host Heroes Dinner Sept. 11

Jefferson Elks lodge 2306 will hold its annual Heroes Dinner Sunday, Sept. 11 at the lodge in Jefferson. All veterans, current members of the Armed Forces, National Guard and Reserves, volunteer firefighters, emergency medical responders and law enforcement personnel, and their spouses, are invited. There is no charge.

The Jefferson city council has a long agenda for its Aug. 23 meeting, with several items of particular interest. The council will hold a public hearing to receive citizen input on eliminating wards. Jefferson received .49 inch of rain during the week that ended Aug. 17, with almost all of it falling on Friday. Temperatures were milder than usual for the third week in August, with only one day when the high temperature was warmer than 90 degrees.
