Candidates named for Nov. 8 general election

November-8-2016-Election-Day-In-United-StatesNominations closed for the Nov. 8 election Wednesday at 5 pm. There are several contested races on the partisan ballots, but none in the non-partisan ballot.

Three persons met the short filing deadline to run for Jefferson city council for the Ward 2 seat vacated by Lisa Jaskey. Dan Benitz, Kirk Hammer and Matt Wetrich will be on the ballot in the Nov. 8 general election. The winner will serve until 2019. Voting for council candidates is at-large; all Jefferson voters will be able to vote in the council election.

Voters will elect three county supervisors. In District 1, incumbent Republican Mick Burkett is challenged by Democrat Alan Robinson. In District 4, incumbent Republican John Muir is challenged by Democrat Todd Madson. The District 5 race will be a rematch of the primary. Republican challenger Peter Bardole won the primary over incumbent Guy Richardson. Richardson is running now with no party affiliation. There is no Democratic candidate.

County auditor, Republican Jane Heun, is running unopposed for re-election. Republican Jack Williams, now chief deputy, is running unopposed for sheriff. County sheriff Steve Haupert is not running for re-election.

Candidates for non-partisan township trustee positions are: Dawson Township, David Cunningham and a position that will be filled by write-in; Franklin Township, Chris Henning and Stephen Molle; Grant Township, Ann Wenthold and Doug Carman; Greenbrier Township, Rodney Frederick and Jeff Hughes; Highland Township, Jane A. Borkowski and Tim Towers; Jackson Township, Keith Conroy and Robert W. Eason; Junction Township, Joe Gannon and Jeff Gilley; Kendrick Township, Don Ferguson and Denton Wenger; Scranton Township, Neal Hoyt and Allen Robson’ Washington Township, Roger Norgren and Tod Contner; and Willow Township, David W. Wolf and Donald Bielenberg. Voters will elect two.

Candidates for the county public hospital (Greene County Medical Center) board of trustees are Judy Sankot, James Schleisman and Bill Raney. Voters will elect three.

Candidates for soil and water conservation commission seats are Susan Cort, Frederick G. Long Jr, and Mark Naberhaus. Voters will elect three.

Candidates for the County Agricultural Extension council are Thomas F. Heater, Doug Rieder, Robert T. Smith and Shari Minnehan. Voters will elect four. There is one candidate, Pam Olerich, to fill a vacancy.

All terms on the ballot are four year terms except those that are to fill vacancies and the county public hospital trustees terms. Hospital trustees serve six year terms.
