The newest addition to the décor around the courthouse square is planters on nine of the pedestals.
The iron planters were fabricated by Olson Ironworks. Prior to their installation, the tops of the pedestals were painted with a sealant to prevent any staining. The floral design was done by volunteers Jean Walker and Karen Lawton, with the planters created by 14 volunteers in about an hour, according to Jefferson Matters: Main Street design committee chair Deb Kucerak.
Cost of the planters was $5,512, paid from the city’s Streetscape fund.
Kucerak also told the city council at its Aug. 23 meeting that fall banners will replace the summer banners around the courthouse square after Labor Day.
