Carlson placed second in the rhubarb-strawberry category of the Machine Shed and Gold Medal Flour Pies competition judged Aug. 15 at the Iowa State Fair.
Carlson won a professional teeth bleaching and a $150 cash award when she won first and second place overall in the Sink Your Teeth Into Something Savory with Sage competition judged Thursday, Aug. 18.
Contestants were challenged to create a savory appetizer, main dish or side dish that featured sage as a seasoning. Carlson placed first in the main dish and side dish categories.
She placed second in the My Favorite Meatloaf competition and won a $75 gift card. Entries were judged on taste, texture, creativity and appearance.
Also on Aug. 18, Carlson won first place and a $75 cash award in the Whole Grain Breads with Red Star Premium Yeast competition. Entries were judged on shape, crust, texture and flavor.
She placed second and won a $50 gift card in the sunflower kernels recipe competition.
In Friday competition Carlson won first place and a $100 cash award in the fudge competition. Entries were judged on taste, appearance and creativity.
On Aug. 20, the last day of State Fair judging, Carlson won first place and a $200 cash award in the Man Cave’s Fajita Sausage Fiesta competition. Contestants were challenged to create an award winning dish that featured Man Cave Fajita Chix Sausage.
She also won first place and a $200 gift card in the Best Cheesecake with Keebler Graham Crust competition. Participants were challenged to create a cheesecake using Keebler’s graham pie crust. And, she won first place and a $75 gift card in the Christmas Party Desserts competition. Entrants were challenged to create a winning dessert that would be great for a Christmas gathering. Entries were judged on taste, presentation and creativity.
She earned third place and $75 in the Can You Curry That? Competition. Entries were judged on spice combinations.
