Customers at the Jefferson Fareway store were able to contribute to Greene County Farm Bureau’s Cram the Cab campaign from June 13 – 18 by rounding up their total bill at the cash register or donating non-perishable food.
All contributions were donated to the Greene County Christian Action Resource Center. In addition to the many carts full of groceries, more than $1,700 was raised by Greene County Fareway customers.
Farm Bureau’s Cram the Cab campaign responded to the local needs in Greene County, as Farm Bureau works to stomp out hunger. According to the Iowa Food Bank Association, one out of eight Iowans struggle with hunger. The food drive challenged area customers to fill up an entire tractor cab with groceries. Rueter’s Red Power in Grand Junction provided the tractor, leaving it in the parking lot after the Bell Tower Festival parade.
“We were excited to partner with Farm Bureau on their Cram the Cab campaign,” said Jefferson Fareway store manager Doug Monaghan. “Thanks to our customers for both monetary and food donations. We appreciate your generosity as we work together to help feed those in need in Greene county.”
“This first-ever Cram the Cab campaign has been incredibly successful,” said John McCormick, Greene County Farm Bureau president. “We appreciate the support of the Jefferson Fareway store staff and their customers to help provide this considerable contribution.”
Dallas County Farm Bureau also held its own Cram the Cab event at the same time and a friendly competition ensued between the counties and the Fareway stores as to who could raise the most money/groceries. And the winner of the competition is… the ARC food pantry and the recipients who will receive this food.
