A diverse group of Greene County residents has formed a committee to support Guy Richardson to run as an independent with no party affiliation in the general election for county supervisor from District 5.
Richardson has served four terms on the board of supervisors as a Republican. He was beaten in the June Republican primary by Peter Bardole.
Michael Mumma, treasurer of Bipartisans for Guy Richardson, filed officially with the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board last week.
“A group of us – Republicans, Democrats and independents – met after the primary to talk about the work Guy has done and his leadership,” Mumma said. “We all agreed that he’s been a major force in the progress Greene County has made in recent years and that we don’t want to lose that momentum at such a critical juncture.”
Over the next few week, Richardson and the committee will gather the necessary signatures to be placed on the ballot for the November general election. According to Iowa law, the signatures will be filed with the Greene County auditor between Aug. 8 and 31.
