Ram baseball team earns four victories in six games

The Greene County baseball team entered the week with just three wins on the season, but added four victories in six games to improve to 7-14 on the season and 3-8 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action as of June 24. Saydel leads the league with a 12-0 record.

The Rams picked up victories over South Hamilton, Manson-Northwest Webster and Nevada. They lost a conference test to Gilbert. In the Kuemper tourney, the Rams topped Carroll and lost to Kuemper.

GC 10 ~ SH 0

Greene County broke a six game losing streak June 20 in Jefferson, defeating South Hamilton 10-0. The game ended in 4-1/2 innings by the 10-run rule.

Freshman pitcher Austin Delp gave up only one hit. The first batter of the game rapped a single and was then caught stealing by catcher Tom Gannon. Delp struck out four, walked one, and hit one with a pitch. He retired the last nine batters he faced.

The Rams recorded nine hits. Logan Lansman doubled and Tom Gannon had two singles and two RBIs. Chase Stoline and Calvin Skalla each singled twice and drove in a run. Reid Lamoureux and Wade Adcock stroked base hits.

GC 8 ~ MNWW 4

Greene County scored four runs in the seventh inning to defeat Manson-Northwest Webster 8-4 in Manson Tuesday, June 21.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning, then M-NWW added three in the second for a 4-1 lead. The Rams added two runs in the fourth inning to close the gap 4-3. Greene County scored the tying run in the sixth, then broke the 4-4 tie with four seventh inning runs, winning 8-4.

The Rams had only four hits on the night. Stoline and Adcock each doubled and drove in two runs. Tyler Beger had an RBI single and Gannon singled. Delp drove in a run with a SAC fly.

Lamoureux was the winning pitcher who relieved Branden Miller after 5-1/3 innings. Miller allowed four runs, all earned, on nine hits and three walks. He struck out seven batters. Lamoureux gave up no runs on two hits. He struck out two and walked none.

GC 12 ~ Nevada 4

Nevada led 4-2 over Greene County in the top of the fifth inning on June 22. The Rams rallied to plate four runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 6-4. They had a big sixth inning to add six runs and defeat the Cubs 12-4.

Beger went the distance on the mound, allowing four earned runs on nine hits. He walked four and struck out seven.

Skalla plated two runs on three base hits and Gannon drove in two runs on two singles. Beger, Lamoureux and Lansman each stroked an RBI single. Adcock rapped a double, single and RBI. Stoline added an RBI on two base hits.

Gilbert 4 ~ GC 3

A three-game Ram winning streak was snapped as Greene County suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of HOIAC foe, Gilbert, on June 24. The Rams were down 4-0 after four innings, but scored twice in the fifth and once in the seventh to make it a one-run game. The contest ended with the Rams stranding the tying and go-ahead runners at second and third bases.

Adcock was on the mound, allowing four runs, three earned and 10 hits in 6-1/3 innings. He walked one and fanned four. Lamoureux relieved Adcock and got the last two outs in the seventh.

Greene County had three of its six hits in the seventh. Two were bunt singles by Lansman and Beger. Lansman scored on Gannon’s bloop hit to left to make it 4-3. Runners were at second and third with one out but the Rams would score no more.

Beger had two hits and one run batted in with a single and RBI for Gannon and Stoline. Delp singled in the second inning.

KUEMPER TOURNEY

The Greene County baseball team split on Saturday, June 25, in Carroll at the Kuemper Catholic tournament against Kuemper and Carroll public. The Rams lost in five innings by the 10-run rule to Kuemper, 16-5, then topped Carroll 15-2 in seven innings. The Rams were 7-14 on the season after the tournament.

Kuemper 16 ~ GC 5

Kuemper jumped on the Rams, scoring five runs in the first inning and adding 10 in the second. Greene County started the game with a run and added four in the fourth but the first two innings were insurmountable as the Rams fell 16-5.

Dylan Fouch took the pitching loss, allowing 15 runs on 11 hits in 1-1/3 innings. He walked six. Ben Wilkins threw 2-2/3 innings, giving up one run on three hits. He struck out one batter.

Lamoureux doubled for the only Greene County extra base hit. Miller singled twice and drove in a run and Lansman had a single and one RBI. Mac Adamson drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in a run.

GC 15 ~ Carroll 2

Against Carroll, the Rams won by double figures for the second time this season. Greene County was up 9-2 after six innings and put the game out of reach with six runs in the seventh for a 15-2 victory.

Junior Logan Kohl threw seven innings in his first varsity pitching start. He gave up two runs, neither earned, on six hits and a walk. He struck out three batters.

The Ram offense recorded 18 hits, including their first triples of the season. Skalla ripped a triple, two singles, and one RBI while Lamoureux’s triple and single drove in one run. Stoline doubled twice and singled twice and Jordan Patterson had two singles and one RBI. Ben Bravard rapped two singles for two runs batted in. Fouch added a double and single while Gannon collected two singles and drove in two runs. Adcock drove in a run and Delp had a two-run base hit.
